Very well observed... on the other hand, a very British hiking experience would be a ladder over a fence... they're quite annoying though when you need to carry a Collie over it! :-)
I noticed that when I was in England how you have to climb fences sometimes lol I thought it was awesome. A lot of hiking trails here in America are a lot like the photo you captured here :)
The woods - a very German experience. This well-tended path complete with wooden bridge seems to typical.
