Speicherstadt, Hamburg, Germany.
December 2011.
On a clear day, you would have
seen the Elbphilharmonie and a
high-rise in the distance.
Into this life we're born
Baby sometimes, sometimes we don't know why
And time seems to go by so fast
In the twinkling of an eye
Let's enjoy it while we can
Won't you help me sing my song
From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road
(Van Morrison - Bright Side Of The Road)
I've neglected my blog for a while, and I haven't had much time to visit other people's blogs either. I've been busy at work, and I had to finish a paper for university. I've been working at the coffee shop for two weeks now, and it took me just a couple of days to get back into the old rut, the one I'm used to from working in some of the local pubs: Cleaning tables, doing the dishes, but most importantly memorising the names of all the products we offer, the various types of coffee as well as a large number of cookies, muffins, pies, and sandwiches... it feels just right to be standing behind the bar again, instead of spending my money sitting in front of it.
Last night and this morning it snowed for a while... there's nothing left of it, though.
There are still 25 days left in 2011, but I've already made some plans for the next year. First of all, I decided to stay in Hamburg for New Year's Eve. However, I will make at least two trips to Berlin next year: I bought tickets for Bruce Springsteen's concert at the Olympic Stadium on the 30th of May and for Runrig's concert at the Tempodrom on the 29th of November. Click on the links and you'll see why I couldn't resist... both venues are amazing. For January, I've planned a surprise visit to a friend who, in my humble opinion, needs to have a few beers before his exams... and there are more plans being made with friends - I'll talk about them soon.
On account of the weather being so bad for pretty much all of last week, I had a lot of time to browse through some of my favourite architecture and design blogs. Here are two awesome lamps: #1; #2. This website comes along with an online shop that sells some funny products, e.g. the whale tail bookmark and the car side mirror. I love three of the unique products designed by Sebastian Errazuriz: #1; #2; #3. I might buy this salt and pepper shaker set for my kitchen. Let's get to the architecture... I love this building in Copenhagen. The interior design in this home is a great inspiration. Last but not least, let me share some photography links... I truly enjoyed this gallery of photographs taken by Alvaro Sanchez-Montanes. These photostreams on Flickr are worth taking a look at, too (#1; #2; #3).

Love, love this photo Dominic! The bw, architecture, and composition make it great. Hey, the frequency of your posting is almost as good as mine :)
Great to see you planning already for next year, something I am also inspired to do now :)
And the picture is superb! Looks great in gray tones...
Love the symmetry of that photo, it looks like hamburg (never been there but this exactly how i imagine the place!
Good lucks with your plans for next year...
Thanks very much y'all!
T.: Yeah, I know... I'll try to post more pictures towards the end of the month.
S.: If you ask me, planning a trip is almost as much fun as the trip itself. I pay a lot of attention to the details and I do a lot of research (mainly on Wikipedia), so I learn a lot about places I had not heard or read about previously.
D.: Well, the picture was taken in Hamburg, so it has to look like Hamburg! :-)
What a beautiful night pic ! :) well done !
How lucky you are to have your tickets for Springsteen and Runrig !thans for all the links ...;)
Thank you! I'm glad you like the photograph.
Buying those tickets tore a big hole in my budget for this month, but it was worth it. :-)
I spend much of December semi-consciously thinking of the year to come. I'm not wishing away the year, but I get pretty lost if I don't hit the ground running on New Year's Day. Have a great NYE!
Hi Dom, good thing you ran out of photos to post...this one is stunning!!!
I've been slack on the posting too. No shortage of photos, just no posting oomph. It happens once in a while...hopefully I'm back to it. :))
Mandy: Yeah, same here. In December, I think about all the things that have happened throughout the rest of the year... and I make plans for the next year. December itself means bad weather, crowded subways, fireworks, and a few more things I don't like.
Even though it's a little early, thank you very much, and have a great new year as well! :-)
Eaton: Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I'm gonna spend my next day off trying to catch up with the blogging world.
At the end of my vacation is very good to see your shots!
Congratulations and good health and creation to the new year!!
Good hug!
Speicherstadt is fantastic! I found it truly fascinating, and this B&W photo of yours underlines its atmosphere.
By the way, I'm back from my brief visit in the UK. Surprise surprise - weather was terrific:)
Have a nice week ahead!
J.
