Ernst Thälmann memorial, Berlin, Germany.
May 2010.
You must leave now
Take what you need, you think will last
But whatever you wish to keep
You better grab it fast
Yonder stands the orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun
Look out, all the saints are coming through
And it's all over now, baby blue
Leave your stepping stones behind
Now, something that calls for you
Forget the dead you've left
They will not follow you
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, baby blue
(Van Morrison - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue)

Heh, these lyrics just sent me down quite a rabbit hole. I went on to one of my favourite sites, Songs Meanings, to investigate the lyrics, wound up investigating George Harrison's "When We Were Fab" lyrics too and then got sucked into reading all about the conspiracy over Paul's supposed death in 1967!
I am a bit ashamed but i didn't know who was Ernst Thalman, i googled him, I have learnt something today!:)
Somehow I managed to miss it! Interesting place:)
Have a happy spring Dominic!
Shoot, I have to confess I didn't know who this man was either. Thanks for the education!
Thanks for your comments!
I must admit that I didn't know who Thälmann was until I came across that memorial and looked him up on Wikipedia...
The graffiti sprayed, heroic-looking communist past. It says so much
That's one of things I love about Berlin - there are interesting places all over the city.
There's a place in Lithuania called Grutas Park where a lot of Soviet-era statues have found their final resting place.
