How Soon Is Now?

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
Well, when exactly do you mean?
See, I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone
(Morrissey / J. Marr)

I started growing my hair a couple weeks ago... decided to abandon my two-inch-cut in order to not look like a chav any time I'm not wearing my Brixton hat. There are other ways to prevent people from thinking you're a chav; one of them is wearing Adidas instead of Reebok. Another is not getting a tattoo of a bulldog with the St. George's cross in the background. I'm gonna make sure I don't, and just decided yesterday that I will grow my hair like Moz.

The picture below was taken yesterday in Hamburg-Altona, Germany. The white thing in the upper right part of the picture is the moon. More new pictures coming soon - if the weather's good enough for me to have enough motivation to leave the house.

Have a great week!

Who Are You

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees

("Who Are You" - Pete Townshend / The Who)

Hello there,

It's been raining for most of the day so I stayed inside and listened to old LPs and looked through some medium format pictures I had taken back in 2007. Here are two I can't seem to take my eyes off every time I look at them... they have this special something that I can't seem to capture when I'm shooting with my digital SLR. I don't know what it is, but it's there.

Church Road & Water Lane (with Richmond Bridge in the distance), Richmond upon Thames, UK. First half of 2007.

I need to have the sensor of my 5D Mark II cleaned A.S.A.P. - new pictures are gonna follow soon.

I watched "Crazy Heart" this week. I recommend it to anybody who likes good music and independent movies and who dislikes the usual Hollywood blockbusters.
Great movie, great actors, brilliant soundtrack. It's gotta be my 2nd favourite movie about music, my number 1 being "Walk The Line" and the 3rd "Control". While the 1st is about Johnny Cash and the second is about Ian Curtis / Joy Division, Crazy Heart is only about a fictional country musician whose stage name is Bad Blake; he's down and out, playing tiny bars or bowling alleys somewhere in the American Southwest. Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell were singing some of the songs themselves and they both sound great.

In addition, I still need to watch the newly released cut of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", which is 20 minutes longer than the original release, with that girl from university to whom I had to explain what a daisy chain is. She had never heard the word before and really wanted to know, and now she's got an awfully low opinion on British teen's social life.

Goodnight!

Peaceful Easy Feeling

"Peaceful Easy Feeling", one of those nice old songs by the Eagles.

I have been absent without leave from this blog for quite a while...
Here's my excuse: Even though I passed both exams of my major subject, I failed the one for the minor. I expected this to happen because I didn't study for it at all; I had to take all three exams within one week so I decided to concentrate on the exams for my major, knowing I'd get a chance to resit the other one I was gonna fail. I passed at the second attempt on the 9th of March. Then I had to hand in an essay on relative chronology and dating methods on the 15th.

Now I'm off-duty until the start of the summer term. I'm spending most of my time just relaxing and hanging out and waking up late because there's no bank holiday weekends and no half term either over here in Germany. One of the reasons why I'm going to move back to the UK after the sixth semester. Maybe, that is.

Anyway, yesterday was the first beautiful and sunny day since... last year? I think so. I made a trip to a nice small town that I passed through several times when I drove to Berlin. It's called Lauenburg. There's a lot of beautiful 16th and 17th century timber-framed houses. Kind of reminded me of one of my favourite places in England: Rye (East Sussex). There's a harbour and a lot of restaurants and old people - actually, I didn't see any young people at all.

Lauenburg, Germany. March 2010.

Have a great weekend everyone!

No Surrender

We busted out of class
Had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three minute record
Than we ever learned in school

Red wall and shadows... spring is here again.

My best friend from London came over to Germany for a visit. We'll probably go on a road trip up to Norway and Sweden this summer.

I hope you're gonna have a great week.
