Worlds Apart

Where the distant oceans sing
and rise to the plain
In this dry and troubled country
 your beauty remains

May the living let us in
before the dead tear us apart

Apart from lots of endangered species, there are three houses built in Neolithic style. Me and the friend who'll join me on the trip to France built a Neolithic fireplace... we dug a hole in the ground, covered the bottom with rocks, added several layers of clay... I haven't built anything in a long time, so this was a very satisfying experience. The silhouette in the first picture is the reconstruction of a Neolithic house.

Have a nice day.

Song Of The South

Arche Warder.
Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
August 2011.

I've had three awesome days at Europe's largest wildlife preserve for endangered species, Arche Warder. Me and three friends worked all day long and had a campfire in the evening. The air was beautifully fresh and the stars were shining above our tent at night. If you're ever in the area, you have to visit Arche Warder. After five hard weeks of digging, those three days have been a welcome change.

We've made progress planning the route for our France trip - we decided to concentrate on the south of the country and leave out Britanny and Normandy. I can't wait to get out on the road.

Talkin' About A Revolution

Lithic flakes.
August 2011.

I spent the past two weeks as part of a team of archaeologists and diggers who excavated what was presumed to have been a paleolithic settlement site. We made no spectacular discoveries though - all we found were some 100 lithic flakes like the ones in the picture above. The weather had been miserable for most of the time; the site got drenched with rain many times.

This coming week will be the last week of digging I'm going to do before my trip to France. Before I visit that beautiful country, however, I'll spend a few days at Europe's largest wildlife preserve for endangered species.
