The Wild Hunt

Stellmoor.
Ahrensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
November 2011.

Howling beasts
And unearthly cries
One-eyed riders
Stones of skies

Though I was young that night
Never once did I fear

(Steve Von Till - The Wild Hunt)

The Wild Hunt is not only the title of the song quoted in this blog post, but also the name of an ancient folk myth. Click here to find out more.

The planked footpath winds through one of Stellmoor's bogs. It's slippery when wet, but a great place to go for a hike. Stellmoor is located just a few miles north-east of Hamburg.

Have a great week.

One of the best cycle rides I ever had was when we encountered a beautiful bog in the middle of a woodland, unexpectedly. OK went in over our ankles and had to carry the bikes but it was magic.

I love those walkways! It is a long time since I took time out to walk in nature. Lovely.

I really enjoy walks in moor landscapes... I used to look forward to every long weekend spent hiking in Dartmoor when I was a kid. I haven't been back since the last time I went with my parents (2006)... I plan to return next year. One of my favourite places in Dartmoor is Wistman's Wood. There's a lot of beautiful old stories that take place in the moor as well - there's a little book about them available at the visitor centre in Princetown (opposite of which used to be a fantastic abandoned house - I'm not sure whether it's still there).

I also love the forests in Germany... they're so dense, so green, and the air smells pure.

I know right! they were also playing christmas music in the supermarket.
But we've had some nice sunny days since we got here.
Oh and have you heard The wild hunt from The tallest man on earth? Really lovely song.

Thanks very much!

@ Moa: I've listened to some of their songs just a few weeks ago, but I'll have to look up that song on youtube right now! :-)
