Here I Go Again

No I don't know where I'm going
But I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time

Here I go again

Here I go again

Though I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

And here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone

(Whitesnake - Here I Go Again)

Essex, California.
Amboy, California.
June 2009.

Of all the places I've been to, the desert of Southern California is one of my favourites. I can't wait to go back...

Click here to view another recent blog post featuring pictures taken in California's Mojave Desert.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to visit Yosemite National Park before I needed to be back in Phoenix for my connecting flight to Newark... Thinking back, I would've preferred to spend more time in the South-West rather than spending a week in the New York / New Jersey - area. This amazing timelapse shows exactly why.

The next thing has nothing to do with this blog post about the American West, but it has something to do with photography, so let me share these stunning photographs of the Northern Lights from National Geographic's website.

Goodnight y'all!

I have always wanted to visit the Californian desert! I have this thing for deserts but the only one I have made it to is in Dubai.

Have you never been to Namibia? That's one country I really want to visit.
I must admit that there's not a whole lot of countries that I want to visit in my life; I doubt I'll ever visit Asia and most of South America, but Africa, especially the south, is one region I want to visit at some point in my life.

These are great shots as you really captured the "spirit" of the place, occasional signs of life in the immensity of the land!

*sigh* No. I haven't visited Namibia or even the Karoo or Kalahari deserts which were in South Africa. Very sad state of affairs. I think my days of touring SA are definitely over too - Le Husband only wants to visit family when we are "home" and so we remain in Johannesburg. That means no Cape Town, Durban, Garden Route, Sabie or deserts.

Thank you! Wow... "occasional signs of life in the immensity of the land"... I couldn't have said it any better! That's exactly what these pictures are about! I never thought about how to best describe them... now you did the job for me. :-)

That doesn't sound too good. Maybe someday you'll be able to convince your husband of the beauty of those places...

Northern Light is another thing on my bucket list:)
I like your photos from California - don't know why but they recall the old American films!
By the way, go to Sylt, you will love it! It's three hours by train from Altona, and the journey is superb:)

I love the old American films of the 40's - they are much better than what came out of Europe at the same time. It's because of the war of course; people had better things to do than making movies. I do like the French cinema of the early 60's though - "Breathless" with Belmondo and Seberg is one of my favourite movies.
Thanks! I'll try to include it in my plans for this year.

Fabulous timelapse and reminded me of how much I liked the Southwest deserts too. I would swop a week in New York like a shot for one in the desert!
