Signal To Noise

Send out the signals deep and loud

Man, I'm losing sound and sight
Of all those who can tell me wrong from right
When all things beautiful and bright
Sink in the night

Yet there's still something in my heart
That can find a way
To make a start

To turn up the signal
Wipe out the noise

Strasbourg, France.
September 2011.

Another picture that didn't make it into the original posts, the ones I published in September and early October. Strasbourg is a beautiful town. Click here to see an old drawing of Strasbourg. I love old drawings and paintings of cities almost as much as I love old maps of countries.

I still need to develop the 35mm film from my underwater camera, which I used when we stayed in the Gorges du Tarn for a couple days.

As I came home from work, my phone had just started ringing. It was Freddy, my classmate from London, who, along with my university buddy Domian, had come along on the trip to France. He'd just visited me in Hamburg in December, but he couldn't wait to further discuss our plans for another trip. We agreed to visit southern Scandinavia - Denmark, Norway, Sweden - this summer. Hopefully, nothing will get in the way of our plans. Like our trip around France, this next road trip will require thorough research to get the most out of our visit.

The song quoted above is one of my favourite songs by Peter Gabriel. I've said before that I loved the music of Genesis with Phil Collins as their lead singer more than their earlier songs with Peter Gabriel as lead vocalist, but as for Collins' and Gabriel's solo albums, Collins can't compare with Gabriel. Khan was first introduced to me by my lovely friend Rachel, when she played this album to me.

Goodnight, and have a great week!

and yes, i do know what you mean. i have not yet found my place in life, allthough i'm really comfortable where i am now. guess i'm afraid to move on, to loose what i have now. which is kinda stupid to do, but oh well. i'll get there.

I love the quote from the Peter Gabriel song at the beginning of the post. Reading it without the the accompaniment of music brings it new meaning. Have a great week!

Yes Dominic , it has rained a lot and the water comes from the mountains around to the river Doubs , the one you see downtown :)

Moa:
Well, that's understandable - you're living down south in Spain, you have a boyfriend there, you've got another home in Sweden, there's nothing to complain about, really. Take your time, and you'll get there.

Kat:
Thanks, you have a great week too!

I knew the scenery looked familiar to me!

Strasbourg is terrific, especially the Little France - I was there few years ago and still want to re visit, but always end up somewhere in the UK!
Southern Scandinavia sounds perfect, but do visit Gdańsk! You will love it:)

Nice! I'd love to go to Strasbourg!

You're absolutely right, we all loved Strasbourg. There's so much old architecture - I love timber-framed houses - I'm not sure whether there's any place I've been to that has more of them.
Don't worry about me forgetting about Gdansk, I'm on it! My friend still has family over there and he invited me to come along someday. I'm planning to take him up on that offer.

James:
Thanks. You gotta, it's worth the trip!

I love quaint towns like this. I'm going to keep this one on my list (like I need more, I think you already put a few on there!) to visit in the future. Your upcoming trip sounds great! I think we're headed to Kauai this summer. We need beach time although it's hard to not do another part of Europe (plan that for the summer after this). Also, thanks for the white balance tip for photos, it gives a cool effect.

You're welcome! If you've got any more questions, just ask.

Magda:
Thank you so much Magda!

I promise I'll try my best! I've got some plans already - a road trip through southern Norway & Sweden - in addition, I'd love to visit Gdansk. Also, I'll keep trying (or at least hoping) to take that one, perfect shot. :-)

Beautiful photo! I agree with you, sometimes drawings can be equally as capturing as maps and old photos <3

Thank you Brooke! I'm glad you like the pictures.

Dear Dom. I love Strasbourg... because it is picturesque and has the time in the veins. Thinking about this city and feeling the music!
Thanks for the mental travel!

I've never thought to compare Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel as to me, they are just worlds apart. Then again, my mum liked Collins and had all his albums but I started liking Peter Gabriel in my own capacity in my mid teens. His 1986 album was my turning point!

Your roadtrip sounds very exciting! Cannot wait to see your photos!

I'm also trying hard to get back into the groove and catch up with blogs. Happy new year!

You are right, they are worlds apart, but they used to be in the same band, Genesis. You're referring to "So"... one of the best albums of the 1980's. His concerts are amazing too; there's a video on youtube of him wearing a suit covered with LED lights while performing "Sledgehammer".

We're still in the planning stage - reading guide books, browsing wikipedia. There's a lot of research to be done if we want to see as much as possible of Denmark and southern Norway & Sweden. The only thing that might get in the way could be his exams - there'll be plenty this summer. He'll find out about the dates in April or May.
In case he'll be unable to come along, I've got an alternative - a trip to Israel - it's a small country, so a week would be enough to visit a lot of places.

I've never been to Strasbourg. It's a place I've often NEARLY gone to but always at the last minute something has happened to prevent me.

Your trip to Scandinavia sounds good - in the summer, I suppose? All that open space and solitude.....

Dom said...

Yes, in the summer. Late summer, that is. My friend will definitely be too busy in July and August and he doesn't yet know if he'll be available in September... I would've loved to go in June already, because of the midnight sun. The idea of the sun never completely disappearing simply fascinates me.

Thanks very much! You have a nice weekend too!

Wow - Israel might be exciting! I'm just going to quietly smile at what you said - "it's a small country, so a week would be enough to visit a lot of places". It is small but there is a lot to see!

Dom said...

Hahah, I know I won't be able to visit every place, but I'm sure there'll be enough time for a tour around the most important / interesting sites.
