Jerusalem Of Gold

Memorial in front of a Jewish cemetery.
Berlin, Germany.
June 2012.

One more picture before I leave the house... Unfortunately, I didn't get to take any long exposures at all during the three days I spent in Germany's capital... I'm planning to spend a whole night taking pictures the next time I visit Berlin.

Blog post title taken from this famous song which can also be heard at the end of Schindler's List. If you'd like to listen to some contemporary Hebrew music, click the following links: #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5. This next song, entitled "Yalla Yalla", isn't really a Hebrew song, but the singer is Israeli, and she's too beautiful not to share this clip. Enjoy.

I don't understand much Hebrew, but I do enjoy listening to beautiful music regardless of the language. Last year, I took part in Hebrew and Swedish language courses, but I was too busy studying and working to remember much of what I learnt. I would still like to visit both countries, however - Sweden during winter when the aurora borealis is visible, and Israel during a time of peace in that troubled region.

Shalom.

Wow I can only imagine taking courses in those languages. I think I'd get them mixed up even though they're so dissimilar.

Have a good weekend!

Both languages were a lot of fun! The teachers were great, too. Swedish would've been easy to learn; if I had had enough time to repeat the vocabulary and basic phrases, I would be able to hold a bit of a conversation now. Hebrew was a lot more difficult, because in addition to the vocabulary I also had to learn the Hebrew alphabet, which is why, ultimately, I decided to drop the course.
I would love to be able to speak more languages than English and German, because they're my native tongues and I never learnt to speak a foreign language fluently. I had Latin in school, and it has helped me understand quite a lot of technical terms, but it might also help me learn Spanish, so that's the next language I might try to learn how to speak.
I don't even need to speak the language fluently - I just want to visit a country and not have to ask people if they speak English.

Thanks, the same to you!

Great movie (Schindler's List). I love your long exposure photos so I look forward to more sometime... Your Mountain Dew fascination made me laugh, that stuffs the worst, always made me think of pee! :) Sorry, don't mean to ruin it for you. :)

JM: Thanks very much,!

Trisha: I love that film, too. Thank you! I've been working a lot of the early shifts for the past couple weeks, so I didn't want to stay up too late to go out and take any new ones. Hahaha, Mountain Dew is awesome! The colour needs improving though... it really doesn't look nice.
